SLN Network Link at the bottom of every page - There is a link to the following web page at the bottom of every page:

http://sln.suny.edu/index.html

If this link is to remain there, the information on this page needs to be modified in include information about ANGEL classes.

Perhaps it would be best to replace this link with an ANGEL specific link.

COURSE INFO. DOCUMENT by: Paul McLean

Subject: YOUR NEXT STEPS

The Bulletin Board is a discussion area for our class outside the context of a particular course module. Just as you have the opportunity to talk or chat with each other or with the instructor when taking a conventional classroom course, you should also have the opportunity to do the same in a web course. The Bulletin Board is available only to students enrolled in this class to post and/or read messages and respond. These can include questions or comments to other students and me about course material, assignments, readings, etc. It is also a place where you can go to socialize and have open discussion on subjects of your interests.  I may use this area to make announcements during the semester, so be sure to check it every time you "come to class."

Meet Your Classmates is where you will introduce yourself to the class.  You will find my profile and the profiles of the other students in this course. Your profile will help us get to know each other and begin to build a sense of class community, so please feel free to personalize your profile by adding a link to your favorite web site or attach a digital image of yourself.  Since profiles will be posted as people join the course, you may have to return to Meet Your Classmates several times during the first few weeks of class to read the latest entries.

As your next steps, click on Course Map link and complete the following tasks:

Click on Bulletin Board.  Post an item to start a discussion or read other students' responses, if there are any, and respond.

Click on Meet Your Classmates.  Select your name from the list to open your blank profile.  Then click the Edit button in the upper left of the page and enter information to introduce yourself to the class.  When finished, click the 'Submit Your Personal Profile' button in the lower left of the page.

When you have completed these two tasks, you are ready to begin the first module of the course

*********************************************************************

From reading this, it does not appear that any of this information would be needed in an ANGEL course, so it should be stripped out.
However, we would need a similar document in ANGLE that contains this type of information for whatever we decide we want to do in ANGEL.  This information can be placed in a LOR, which could easily be linked and/or transferred to ANGEL courses.  This would make more sense then leaving this document in and force people to edit it after the fact.

Bill adds the following to his version of this document:
You will find the Bulletin Board in the Other Course Areas section of the Course Map. I will be using this area to make announcements during the semester, so be sure to check it every time you "come to class."

You will find my profile by clicking the Meet Your Classmates link in the Other Course Areas of the Course Map. Check this area to meet the others in this course. Since profiles will be posted as people join the course for the first time, you may have to return to this area several times to see the latest entries.

After you have introduced yourself, you are ready to begin the Ice Breaker Activities in the first module.

But this type of information can be added just as easily to a LOR document, rather then leaving the Your Next Steps document there and force people to edit it.

Meet your Classmates information is present in both.

Bulletin Board information is present in both.

Both talk about Shared References - there are better ways to do this in ANGEL

Both talk about the ASK A Question Icon and show the picture.

Both Talk about Private Folders being created only after you fill out Meet your classmates.  We want this to be there anyway and automatically.

Course Navigation Tips

While I assume that you have completed the Student Orientation and have been well-acquainted with navigating inside an on-line course, I would like to remind you of the tools provided for you on each page of this course.

Although you can certainly use the Back andForward buttons of your browser, the buttons provided at the top and bottom of each page in this course can facilitate "jumping" to important pages and resources. Using these will save time for you.

your gateway into this course (and others, if your are enrolled in more than one), library resources, and other items pertinent to students.

the main page or "table of contents" for this course.

the main page or "table of contents" for a given module.

returns to the previous document in a module.

proceeds to the next document in a module.

if you have any technical issues, use this button to access the SLN Help Desk.

Here are more hyperlinks that can help you when viewing a module menu:

Student Orientation- This does not appear in the Pruned Version, which is a good thing since it contains information that would not apply to ANGEL.  We could create this in a LOR and make it easy to link and/or download instead of leaving it there.
Here is what this document says:

Student Orientation

The students who successfully complete this course are "Survivors!" By completing all of the activities in this Icebreaker Module, you are greatly increasing your chances of survival.

At the top of the Course Map (the outline of the course you see when you first log on) is a link to the Student Orientation. This is your first assignment. It will take you about 2 hours to completely work through this orientation. Please complete all of the activities. You will learn all of the skills necessary to complete this course successfully. Note: If you have previously worked through the Student Orientation, you are not required to do it again. Note - if you have previously taken one or more SLN courses, this assignment is optional.

When you have completed the Student Orientation, take the Student Orientation Quiz. If you miss any of the quiz items, you need to revisit the Student Orientation and review the relevant activities.

*****************************************************************************************
Student Orientation Quiz - No difference.  The problem is that this quiz contains very specific SLN 1 questions that will be of no use in angel.  We should create a Student Orientation Quiz and put it in the LOR to and link and/or download it to courses.

Creating A Good Original Question - No difference

However, neither one will link to the hypertext document.  Don't know why.

I was however able to easily recreate this link once I was in angel.

It also had specific directions on using the respond button that should not be there and would need to be removed/edited.

Facilitating  An Online Discussion - No difference.  However, both documents refer to respond button below that does not exit that needs to be edited/removed.

The TWO CARDINAL RULES of Discussions - No difference

Discussion Hints - No difference

How to Earn an "A" for Every Discussion - No Difference

How To Check Your Grades - No difference.  However, it contains information that is not useful in Angel.

It talks about the Your Evaluations Link and which will be replaced by the Gradebook.

It also talks about he Discussions Ratings Link, which does not exist in ANGEL.  Perhaps we can make a nugget that will compile these ratings?  In any event this document will need to be edited/deleted in either case.

People Are Strange - No difference

Historical Context / Integrative Psychopathology

Module 1 Activities - No difference

Warning Small Groups Ahead! - No difference

Don't Make This Mistake! - No difference.  #NOTE - the link to how to earn an A does not work.  However, it does not work form the nsa file either so this is not conversion things fault.

Website Review / Discussion Instructions - No difference

How to submit your essay to the turnitin.com website - No difference

Creating A Working Link - No differnece.  However, this gives directions on creating the link in SLN discussion.  It will need to be edited for ANGEL.

Website Review - No difference.  However, both documents contain information about clicking on the Create An Assignment link and calls the title the subject when talking about advanced organizer informaiton.   This need to be edited to be Angel Specific.

Instructions for Student Led Discussions - No difference.  However both talk about the Respond button that does not exit in ANGEL and needs to be edited.

Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 Group Documents - No difference.  However, both talk about the Respond or Respond to Group button that does not exist in Angel and needs to be edited.

Talk With The Professor - No difference

Case Studies in Psychopathology

Case Study Instructions - No Difference
Differential Diagnosis and DSM-IV - No difference.  However, the link at the bottom of the page was not active. It was very easy, however, to recreate this link and make it work.

Axis 5 - No difference. However, the link  was not active.  It was very easy, however, to recreate this link and make it work.  I attempted to recreate what he did, evey in Notes typing the link from scratch by hand to appear just as it appears on Bills Notes page.  I could not duplicate the problem.  There is something about the way Bill is making these links that is not "normal" that is creating these problems.

Case Studies - No difference.  They all look fine and work the same in both.

Coffee House

All the Coffee House documents are the same in both.  However, they do refer the respond button that will need to be edited.

Culminating Activity

Everything is the same in both versions with nothing needed to be edited.
